ALPHA 2.0 TEST DAY
Saturday 11th January
After Match Analysis
We want to thank everyone who participated in the Alpha 2 Testing!
The day went well and, yes, we had some teething issues and, because of this we were running behind (sorry for that) but, that being said, it was a great day and another great test.
So on behalf of the SAL Officials and the Depot Officials thank you!
We have had great feedback from the 40+ people who joined us on Saturday, and we are acting to improve things.
So it has come to the time for our feedback…Muhahaha 🤣
From the League Referee's perspective:
The day started well with the majority of people being there and ready for doors opening, there was a few stragglers - we did not want this but, we kinda expected it.
Going forward we will be opening the doors at 08:30 the chrono will be open for 30 minutes (no more) from 09:00…. If you do not have your weapons through chrono and tagged before 09:00… you cannot use it.
In regards to the over all play… there was unfortunately a lot of reports of non-hit taking and over shooting.
Going forward there we will be a demonstration of the “3 in the air” law… If you are found to be breaking this, then not only will there be league penalties for your team but you, as an individual, may be subject to site disciplinary actions, invoked by Depot Officials.
There was a couple reports of certain people “dodging” the respawn…. This is not in the spirit of the hobby let alone the sport!
Going forward if anyone is found to be doing this, will be grounds for an immediate Red-Card being issued.
I want to personally thank everyone’s patience with the Ref team, as sadly due to unavoidable circumstances (illness), we had to call on some of you to be player marshals. We could not have run the day without that help and support, this was very much appreciated.
That being said, this was a major contributing factor for the day being behind of schedule, as Junior and I had to explain the role to every player marshal (especially at the start of the day). This was unavoidable but necessary to make sure that each game was fair.
Going forward we intend to have a full complement of regular Marshals meaning that the players get the opportunity to take a short break in the game rotation to bomb up and talk tactics with their teams.
The Ref-card system (I personally think) went well as I served a test yellow card. That being said, I want to reiterate…
When a yellow card is issued (test or not) you are required to go to the DMZ where a SAL Official will be there to hold you in the “Sin-Bin” for 2 minutes, after that you are to report back to your spawn marshal to get back into the game. If you are issued a yellow card and do not show up to the Sin-Bin (this will be monitored by marshal radios), then this will automatically upgrade your card from yellow, to red.
From the League Admin Perspective:
Whilst the Player Marshals helped make the day actually happen (much appreciated) it did slow things down and made the reporting of results back to League Command sometimes inconsistent.
All of this meant that we simply couldn’t catch up on planned timings despite reducing breaks and virtually scrapping lunch (sorry to those who missed it).
A permanent Marshall pool is being developed to cover illness etc.
The computer screen system seemed to be very well received - especially the live updates on game scores.
We may, however, look at positioning the large screen elsewhere to avoid congestion at the main desk.
A site map showing spawn points needs to be displayed.
This is in hand and will be there next time.
We had many mentions of poor Target Identification due to our use of coloured tapes combined with lighting .
We have the beginnings of a solution to this problem (subject to discussions with Depot Officials) and, if this is adopted, it will make things even simpler for Players, Teams and Admin.
As you all know this was our second test day, and the first using both West & East Arenas at the same time. From everyone's reports we are very pleased - it has confirmed good things, highlighted things we got wrong and can, therefore, improve.
Also thank you for everyone’s continued support and feedback, together we WILL make this League happen!
